Keighley is
a town within the Bradford Metropolitan District area of West
Yorkshire, England, but has its own Town Council.
Situated in a deep valley, Keighley lies along the River Worth
near its confluence with the Aire.
Below the area is gritstone.
Keighley was built stradlleing the Pennine moors.
Keighley grew rapidly in the 19th century when its woollen industries
and manufacture of textile machinery benefited from access to
the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
The town includes the village of Haworth, home of the Brontė family.

Rugby is the main
sport in Keighley, and it boasts a professional Rugby League club
called Keighley Cougars who play their home games at "Cougar Park",
previously called Lawkholme Lane.
There are four amateur open aged Rugby League teams in the Keighley
area, Keighley Town RLFC (formed by the merger of Worth Village
& Keighley Celtic), Keighley Albion RLFC, Cowling Harlequins
and also Silsden Park Rangers RLFC.
The Rugby Union team are called Keighley Crusaders and have
their home ground at Utley.
There are many local
football and cricket teams who play in local and county leagues
and competitions as well as Table Tennis, Bowls, Badminton, Pool,
Hockey etc...
Keighley
has a large shopping centre called "The Airedale Centre" and
also "Cavendish Court" but there are also hundreds of local
shops within and around the town centre.
"The Picture House" is the last remaining cinema left open
in Keighley and serves the local area with all the latest film releases.

A railway station
and bus station caters for the public transport needs and the privately
owned "Keighley & Worth Valley Railway" is world famous for
its use of steam trains.
"Airedale General Hospital" is situated just outside Keighley
and there are several health centres in and around the town.
There are many different
religious places of worship including the Mother Church of British
Spirituality on
Hebor Street.
The very first British
Carnege Library was opened in Keighley in 1904 and is still serving
the district.
