I have an old 3 Dongle Huawei Model : E220 that works OK in the village
Try the Windows Port Tweak below for the E220.

I have now the new 3 Huawei E122 that never throws out of connection on Main St, they say it has dual Antenna in the Dongle, an SD card Slot to use the unit as a Memory stick, and has a hidden antenna connector under the SD memory card cover to connect a external antenna, Downloads up to Mbps 7.2, Uploads up to 2.0 Mbps, UMTS Bands Frequency = Duel.
Well they have done something remarkable to it as it worked fine for me. At the moment 3 Mobile are giving a 5 Gigabyte a month download for £ 15 or the same 5 GB for £11 promotion. So that's two possibility's of Dongle O2 or 3 by Hutchinson.
All Mobile Dongle details found HERE
If you are a returning 3 Mobile contract customer you could be entitled to a 6 month contract of 5GB for £7.50 a month and could get the first month free, if your contract is out try this great deal but wont get the new Huawei E122 high speed Dongle so have to still use your old Huawei E220 Dongle, but then you can get a new Huawei E122 on E-Bay for around £20, this makes it an even better deal.

Mobile Broadband Antenna Range

These can but not always improve all Mobile USB Dongles, if your Dongle has not got the Antenna socket like the new E122 under the Memory Card cover,
then a strap on Velcro belt to the Antennas cable is supplied for use with Dongles similar to the old E220 Dongle and others similar that do not support an Antenna socket.
Some Antenna have suction cups mounts for windows / caravan sides mount, some for indoor / outdoor use and some have soft magnets for a car or a wagon roof all are varying 2dBi to 8dBi (900MHz) & 11dBi (3G UMTS) strengths.
Hope this helps.

The Dovado USB Mobile Broadband Router (UMR)
In Methley you need all the help you can get to get a good 3G reception, Dovado USB Mobile Broadband Router (UMR) will not boost your signal but will let you work in a comfortable place around the house while the dongle is situated in the best reception position receiving the most stray air waves possible, probably in a window facing at the nearest mast of its type, so if your dongle is an O2 then face it to the Pinfold Lane Power Pylon, if it is any other provider type Dongle just do a house walkabout till you find the best window where the dongle picks up the best signal and fix your UMR to the wall their.
Delivered in 1 to 2 working days to UK.
In the UK can buy a Dovado UMR for £110.

In some outlaying areas of Methley like Newmarket Lane their are still some patches of Aluminium underground phone cable that has it's own problems, it cuts Broadband speed down to less than the once promised half meg. Some providers now are boosting these areas to near 1 meg.
Aluminium was used extensively in the 1970's as a cheaper phone cable to the higher priced Copper cable. The main problem with aluminium wiring is a phenomenon known as "cold creep". When aluminium wiring warms up, it expands. When it cools down, it contracts. Unlike the phone company's newer copper cable, when aluminium goes through a number of warm/cool cycles it loses a bit of tightness each time. To make the problem worse, aluminium oxidises, or corrodes when in contact/connected to certain types of other metal like the copper cable, so the resistance of the connection goes up making the Broadband speed go down. Eventually the wire may start getting very hot, melt the insulation or fixture making thing worse.

Leeds city centre gets 100Mbps fibre optic access
Pinfold Lane, Methley next on fibre optic.
Fibre Optic has no or very little speed drop from exchange to user but many times more expensive to use than previous materials and has no real scrap value, possibly because you can't twist two broken ends together to get a connection, but then I guess light is cheaper to send down a cable than electricity.
hope above helps
